VSD – Automatic chicken flap, twilight – manual – timed via optional clock, battery-operated
Product information "VSD – Automatic chicken flap, twilight – manual – timed via optional clock, battery-operated"
The VSD basic solution. Control via twilight (timed with optional accessories) and manually, powered by 4x alkaline batteries
Open and close it as it gets light or dark.
- Opens the chicken flap automatically when it gets light. Closes the chicken flap automatically when it gets dark.
- The light sensor is built into the unit. No separate light sensor is required if the unit is mounted on the outside of the barn.
- If you are installing the Doorkeeper inside the stable, please order a sensor extension, the external light sensor (ASb), in the appropriate length.
You should also open and close the chicken flap manually.
- The magnet is held briefly against a control panel on the device, causing it to open or close.
- Is the unit installed indoors…? So you can’t access the control panel for manual operation? Order the extension cable (ext.SA) straight away. Place the control panel for the magnet in a location that is easily accessible to you.
Battery power supply
- The device is powered by 4x alkaline batteries. The batteries have a service life of approx. 2-3 years, depending on the weight of the slider and general environmental conditions.
- This allows for a high degree of independence from mains sockets and is ideal, for example, for mobile chicken coops.
The device uses an LED to indicate when the batteries are too low. - A plug-in power supply (ST) or another voltage source between 6 and 12V can also be connected in parallel or as the sole power source. In the case of, for example, external batteries, such as those used in off-grid solar systems or car batteries, the supply cable must be protected by a fuse (1A max.).
Further information
- Extension cables are available for a number of convenient functions.
- External light sensor (various lengths) can be connected (available as an optional extra) – for installing the unit inside the barn
- Extension of the manual control (various lengths)
– this allows for convenient manual operation even when the unit is installed in the barn! - It is possible to add a timer function by connecting an external timer (BS-D / BS2) (optional)
- Optimised mechanism – ensuring a long-lasting cord
- Slider weights of up to 3kg are possible
If you need a Doorkeeper to open a pasture gate, please take a look at the pasture gate openers BZ1, BZ3 (click on the name). These are the perfect combination for this application. The VSD is only suitable in conjunction with the external timer BS-D for equine applications.
As a company, we have been manufacturing devices of this type for over 40 years. We place great importance on durable products and excellent customer service at a fair price.
The Electronic Doorkeeper automatically opens and closes vertical sliding doors on chicken coops.
This is controlled either via the light sensor and / or a timer. Manual control is also possible, independently of the twilight and timer controls. The light sensor is fitted as standard in every unit. Therefore, no further action is required if the unit is mounted on the outside of the henhouse. If it is to be mounted inside the henhouse, a sensor extension is required.
If the flap closes and there is an animal underneath it, the device stops and only continues to close once the animal has moved away.
The device has an overload protection mechanism. It reacts in a way that is gentle on the cord and repeatedly attempts to open. The slider might, for example, be frozen shut.
The housings of all devices in the VS series are extremely robust. The electronics are mounted on the underside of the circuit board using SMD technology and are protected by a special coating against corrosive gases, moisture and dirt. The VSD can be installed outdoors provided it is positioned in a slightly sheltered location, and it will not open during a thunderstorm (lightning).
Manual operation: With this device, it is possible to close it manually during the day. To do this, hold a magnet against a specific point on the housing. The slider will close and remain closed for the rest of the day. It will open again automatically the following morning.
It is also possible for you to reopen the Doorkeeper on the same day. To do this, hold the magnet against the control panel again.
LED display:
The device uses a multi-coloured LED to indicate, at intervals of several seconds, when:
a) the batteries are flat or should be replaced
b) the device must be in closed mode according to the limit switch position
c) other general faults (for example, a twisted cord)
The LED indicators are displayed for a limited time (for example, flap closed for up to approximately 1h after the closing process) to keep battery drain to a minimum.
Possible accessories for the device:
Extension of the built-in light sensor ASb:
You can also install the device and the slider inside the henhouse using a light sensor extension cable. The Doorkeeper then receives the correct light signal from the sensor extension, which can be very easily fitted, for example, into the wooden wall of the henhouse, or attached in another location where it is slightly sheltered.
Cable lengths of up to 6m are available.
External manual operation, ext.SA:
Do you want to open or close it manually with ease? An automatic chicken flap is often not conveniently accessible in order to trigger the function there. The manual control extension provides a solution to this problem. Position the control panel for the magnet in a place where you can easily reach it to hold the magnet against it. A great convenience. Cable lengths of up to 6m are available.
Extension of the internal LED, ext.LED:
The device occasionally displays status information. For example, it informs you when the batteries need replacing, when the flap is in the closed mode, or if there is a fault of any kind. You will not see this information if the Doorkeeper is installed indoors. With the LED extension, you can get round this problem by mounting the ext.LED in a more visible location. Furthermore, the external LED is also brighter than the internal one.
External timer (accessory):
If you wish to control the flap by time as well, or exclusively, you will need a separately available external timer for the VSD. We offer these timers in both battery-powered and mains-powered versions. If you intend to operate the Doorkeeper using a 12V mains adaptor plugged into a socket, you should use the mains-powered timer.
We stock both digital and analogue clocks. The digital models are available in a battery-operated version (BS-D) and a mains-powered version (ZS-D). Our analogue clock is available in a battery-operated version.
How it works: The timers set a time period during which the flap is definitely closed. This is usually, for example, from 10 pm until 8 am the following morning. Outside these hours, the light sensor determines whether it is opened or closed. This means that in this combination it closes in the evening at dusk, but no later than 10 pm. In the morning it opens from 8 am, provided it is light. If not, it opens as soon as it is light enough .
Furthermore, it is possible to control the Doorkeeper solely by time, i.e. without the influence of the light sensor.
It is not possible to operate a VSD and an older VSB together on a single timer. However, it is possible to operate several VSDs on one timer and several VSBs on another timer.
Installation notes to avoid misunderstandings or problems:
The device is supplied in the open position, i.e. with the cord wound up. A loop protrudes from the device. First, fit the rails, then insert the slider and pull it into the open position. Mount the device above this so that you can connect the loop on the device to the slider. This sets the upper stop… very simple. If the device does not fit directly over the open slider, mount it next to it, or elsewhere. You can now connect the loop on the device and the open slider using an extension cord, which you can then route over pulleys if necessary.
